As a film buff, there are a few things that a movie should be or it doesn't make it to my ultimate list.
First, it should be visually stunning/stimulating/ may it be the graphics, cinematography or beautiful faces or architecture and interiors.
Second, it should make sense. It should have meaning or I should be able to relate to the plot somehow or it's characters.
Third, clever writing, may it be the story or the dialogue or both.
Fourth, it should change my life in a way, may it be to inspire me or make me change something small or big in my own life or something I learn from.
Fifth, the movie should be unforgettable.
Sixth, it makes me want to see it all over again as soon as the credits come up.
Seventh, it makes me smile or laugh or both.
Eighth, It should be blog-worthy.
All of the above was met when I saw this movie called SIDEWALLS on Netflix. It's an Argentinian film. I've never seen a film from Argentina before so I didn't have any expectations. I was just really starved for a good film in quite a long time. So I gave it a go.
I was blown away.
From beginning to end.
As someone who has so many fears/phobias, I could so relate with the characters in this movie. I completely understand the ordeal they were going through, the loneliness and how they try to fight those fears everyday just to survive or feel alive.
The dialogue is superb and so timely. You can't help yourself from nodding in agreement because you see it, you know it, you feel it. It's your life and mine. You'll feel claustrophobic, scared and yet you'll feel inspired and hopeful.
I love it so much, I think you'll find me on the bed in the middle of the night tonight, watching it on Netflix on my phone.
Sometimes I spend a whole hour just surfing through Netflix. There is so much junk there but sometimes I stumble on a pot of gold. My recent find, Or should I say---my kids' recent find was a korean tv drama entitled 'you are beautiful'. I loved it (not as much as boys over flowers) and if you are a hopeless romantic then you'll love it too.
I don't want to give anything away. I love watching something when I have no idea what it is about. So, I'll give you the chance to have the option of not knowing too. This is available on Netflix streaming, if you don't have Netflix. It's available on www.viki.com.
Enjoy!
Three Years too late.
I know I'm so late falling into the
Boys Over Flowers craze but It's only understandable because I haven't been living in the Philippines or anywhere in Asia to catch the bug three years ago but I'm so glad that my girls are so obsessed with korean tv drama that they literally forced me to see the whole entire show on Netflix. I don't know how life would be if I hadn't seen it haha. I refused so many times because I knew It'll eat up my time but they would put on the show while I am in bed and did not leave me any choice. After the first episode, I was already hooked as if my mind depended on it.
I have four reasons why I can't turn off the tv.
1. The plot is superb! I love korean movies but little did I know that their tv dramas are just as good, if not better.
2. Joon Pyo/Junpyo, one of the main characters is just a god in a korean body.
I cannot get over the curly hair! So cute right? And his clothes! Nothing can beat an all black clad man.
3.Junpyo!
4.Junpyo!
Okay, I love him okay! And I swear you would too! So get on Netflix now and drool over the other 3 guys, just not over my Junpyo. He's mine. :)
I see a ton of movies every week. I've been a movie fanatic since I was a little girl and grew up watching movies instead of playing with the neighborhood kids. We also owned a movie rental place/drugstore in the 80's and that was when my obsession of movies started. Now, I am more obsessed than ever and it has rubbed on to my kids. We have subscription to Netflix streaming and blu-ray and we still rent movies a few times a week at our local movie rental place. I feel so bad sometimes when I think of all the hours I've spent watching movies and sometimes I so regret the time I've wasted that I can never have back specially if the movie I've seen was so bad but there are also instances that the movie I see is so good that watching it once or twice is never enough.
That happens rarely but a few weeks ago, I saw the movie called ONE DAY with Anne Hathaway and
Jim Sturgess and I was blown away.
I had to watch it again and again. My kids loved it too. It was sad and yet so powerful. It was so real. No sugar coating, no intense drama, just real. The pain, the love, their life seems so real, so real that it makes you feel like you've lived through it, like you have that one love in your life you can never seem to shake off of your life.
I also loved how it was set in the late 80's and early 90's and I can totally relate to the attire and the music. I loved how life was back then. Sometimes I wish we never left that era.
This movie is a must see. Watch it with your loved one, watch it with your bff or watch it alone. You will not regret that you did. Such a beautiful movie without even trying hard. I cried all those three times I've watched it and I will probably cry again the next time I do... and the next and the next.
I hope my phone does not explode from watching too much Netflix. I was stuck in bed again due to a terrible cough and fever and I spent it watching a ton of Netflix. Oh and I got hooked on Bollywood films. And what is up with Indian films and their superb plots? Almost all Indian movies on Netflix has a 3+ rating and I am often not disappointed.
These two films are my recent faves and please, please go watch them. You will not regret that you did. Salaam Namaste has some cheesy moments but the plot is pretty entertaining specially if you can relate to the characters. What I don't understand about Bollywood is all the dancing and singing. They can do pretty good without it. I usually skip those parts and if you have Netflix, you know how difficult it is to do that but I just cannot stand it.
This Film "Kites:The Remix" is just too beautiful beyond words. It is visually stunning from beginning to end. The cinematography is just amazing and the cast are just way too beautiful. The story is Romeo and Juliet-ish and who ever gets tired of such plot? Specially me, I am Romeo and Juliet obsessed.
This really made it into my top 5 favorite movies of all time and what's good about it is there is no cheesy dancing! Woohoo!
Will you please, please see this movie and tell me what you think about it?
